Mt. Gox site down for 24 hours, creditors flag scam login emails

The Mt. Gox claims site has been down for more than 24 hours with users claiming they’ve been hit with a flurry of attempted login emails, potentially as part of a large-scale brute-force password attack. Creditors in the Mt. Gox insolvency Reddit thread claimed on Wednesday that they are getting upwards of 22 emails notifying them of attempted logins from their Mt. Gox claim accounts.  One claimed to have had six attempted email logins, and questioned, “Is this a successful hacking attempt or a side effect of the Kraken news?” Dozens of users in the threads claim that they are receiving multiple attempted login emails out of the blue.  A screenshot of the login emails shared on Reddit. Craig Wright's former lawyers say emails submitted to court ‘not genuine’

Patrick Madden took the stand as an expert witness during Day 16 of the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) v. Craig Wright lawsuit. Madden created the ‘Madden Report,’ which found that many of the documents produced by Wright were so different from the originals that they were likely forgeries. After the day concluded, Wright’s ex-attorneys rang an alarm about certain emails found by Wright’s wife and introduced as evidence last week. These emails might also have been forged. For context, COPA is suing Wright seeking a near-worldwide injunction against him claiming the copyright to Bitcoin’s whitepaper. Wright claims to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin. MetaMask issues scam alert as NameCheap hacker sends unauthorized emails

Web hosting company NameCheap detected the misuse of one of its third-party services for sending some unauthorized emails — which directly targeted MetaMask users. Popular crypto wallet provider MetaMask warned investors against ongoing phishing attempts by scammers attempting to contact users through NameCheap’s third-party upstream system for emails. On the evening of Feb. 12, web hosting company NameCheap detected the misuse of one of its third-party services for sending some unauthorized emails — which directly targeted MetaMask users.
