Bitcoin and most major altcoins are witnessing a relief rally but higher levels are likely to attract strong selling by the bears. FTX’s collapse dealt a major blow to the already fragile sentiment among cryptocurrency investors. Although a quick recovery is unlikely, Blockchain analysis firm Chainalysis said that the crypto universe could emerge stronger from this crisis. Chainalysis’ research lead Eric Jardine arrived to the conclusion after comparing FTX’s fall to that of Mt. Gox. Another calming statement came from Bloomberg Intelligence exchange-traded fund (EFT) analyst James Seyffart, who said that there was a “99.9% chance” that the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) held the Bitcoin (BTC) it claimed. He added that GBTC was “unlikely” to be liquidated. Daily cryptocurrency market performance. Bitcoin and select cryptocurrencies are trying to start a rebound following the CPI data release but bulls may find it difficult to continue the recovery at higher levels. The United States consumer price index rose 4.9% annually, which was slightly less than estimates of a 5% increase. The CPI’s monthly rise of 0.4% in April was in line with expectations. Although inflation remains stubbornly higher than the Federal Reserve’s 2% target range, traders will take comfort from the slower pace of increase. That suggests the Fed rate hikes are having their effect and further rate hikes may not be necessary. If the Fed pivots and starts to cut rates as the FedWatch Tool projects, that may be positive for risky assets such as equities and cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin (BTC) has responded positively to the CPI data and has risen above $28,000 on May 10. Daily cryptocurrency market performance. Bitcoin hit a year-to-date high at $31,000 and ETH price followed. Which altcoins will be next? Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) are trading above the psychologically important levels of $30,000 and $2,000 respectively. This suggests that the crypto winter may be on its last legs.  Some analysts are calling for an altseason to begin but it may be too early for that. When most of the crypto bears turn bullish, Bitcoin is likely to turn down sharply and catch the late entrants off guard. That could hurt sentiment in the short term and cause a sell-off in altcoins. After the weak hands are shaken out, the crypto Markets may stabilize and begin a sustained uptrend. Daily cryptocurrency market performance. Bitcoin continues to face resistance near $29,000 and Ether has decided to take charge of the wider crypto markets' bullish momentum. Bitcoin (BTC) remains pinned below the psychologically crucial level of $30,000 as cryptocurrency investors search for positive triggers. That has not stopped business intelligence firm MicroStrategy from adding 1,045 Bitcoin to its kitty, which has now swelled to 140,000 Bitcoin. Even after the sharp recovery from November 2022 low, monitoring resource Material Indicators believes the current up-move is a bear market rally. Usually, a bear market rally does not turn around until the last bear has thrown in the towel. This suggests that Bitcoin’s recovery may have some more legs before it turns down to shake out the weaker hands. Daily cryptocurrency market performance. Bitcoin and major altcoins look vulnerable to a deeper correction after the crackdown on Paxos soured sentiment across the crypto market. Bitcoin (BTC) and select altcoins are threatening to deepen their correction after reports emerged that the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued a Wells Notice to Paxos, alleging that the dollar-pegged Binance USD (BUSD) stablecoin is an unregistered security. Separately, Paxos has been ordered by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) to halt the issuance of BUSD.  After the crackdown on Kraken last week and now Paxos, the regulator’s actions may increase nervousness among crypto investors. FOX Business journalist Eleanor Terrett tweeted on Feb. 12 that “more Wells notices going out in the coming 2-3 weeks, I’m told.” Daily cryptocurrency market performance.
